John Lukehart has left these earthly bounds and in his departure he has taken with him a wonderful smile and a gracious attitude toward both the arts and humanity in general. I met John many years ago when he was a moving force in the VMA (Village Managers Association) and in that role he was a gentleman, he was fair, and he was dedicated. He joked with me about not all VMA supporters having Volvo's, as he drove away in his Volvo.

John was known locally to many for his years with the Oak Park Area Arts Council and his work with the Oak Park Community Relations Department. His last job helping others was as Head of the Leadership Council for Metropolitan Open Communities.

When John became ill a couple of years ago he fought valiantly to defeat the cancer which had invaded his body.
He went through numerous surgeries and always fought
on. Even after many trips and stays in the hospital John walked around as he healed and had kind words for the arts and others. He was a true gentleman and friend to many.

His passing at the youthful age of 55 is a loss to many. We
all embrace his family during this time of grief.
